What information will a lawyer need to start my case? |
We appreciate your confidence in the Palmer Law Firm and look forward to meeting with you. We understand that this is a stressful and confusing time. Here are some useful tips to help you through this process:
Be prepared for your first meeting: Please complete the client questionnaire you will receive as thoroughly as possible. By answering all of the questions, our time together can be used to discuss the specifics of your legal inquiry rather than gathering basic but necessary information. Bring any relevant court orders, pleadings, or other legal paperwork you have received. Print any text, email, or message you received from the opposing party if you think they are very important. If children are involved, please bring a photo of them. Please gather your thoughts and write down your top concerns and priorities so we can address them at the meeting. Also, on a separate piece of paper, write a timeline of events that have led to this lawsuit. Start with a date (or best estimate) and continue through to the day of our meeting. Appointments: Please be on time for your appointments. If you know you are going to be late, please notify the legal assistant as soon as you can. Companions: If you need a companion to escort you to your lawyer meetings, please note the attorney will likely advise this person does not sit in. However, your companion is welcome to wait for you in our reception lounge. Exceptions will be made at the discretion of your lawyer. What will be accomplished at the consultation? In most cases, it is the object of the meeting for the attorney to get a brief overview of the facts of your case and a general understanding of your legal goals. He will then give you an analysis of your case which will include the merits of your case, legal options and strategies tailored to your particular situation. Consultation Fee: We offer free 15 minute consultations. If you wish to have a consultation longer than 15 minutes, it will be based on the lawyer's availability, and you will be charged at the lawyer's normal hourly rate. You will be asked to make this payment prior to your appointment. |
