The Client Process

We value our clients and have structured our law practice to ensure we use your time wisely.

Do I need to hire a lawyer or legal coach?

There are many reasons why you may need to hire the services of the Palmer Law Firm.  If you have been sued, if your case is complex, if you are completely at a loss of what to do next, you may need full representation.  If you want to try to run your case on your own (pro se) it is still advisable to have a trusted guide.  In either instances, you should seek to understand your obligations and rights, including obtaining expert legal consultation and advice on:
  • Separation and divorce
  • Complex high-net worth property division and divorce
  • Spousal support
  • Divorce financial planning
  • Suits Affecting the Parent-Child Relationship
  • Custody
  • Grandparent Rights
  • High conflict families
We offer initial consultation meeting to review your key questions.  We value your time and have structured our law practice to ensure we use your time wisely.

What information will a lawyer need to start my case?

We appreciate your confidence in the Palmer Law Firm and look forward to meeting with you in person.  We understand that this is a stressful and confusing time.  Here are some useful tips to help you through this process:

Be prepared for your first meeting:
Please complete the client questionnaire you will receive as thoroughly as possible.  By answering all questions, our time together can be used to discuss the specifics of your legal inquiry rather than gathering basic but necessary information.

Bring any relevant court orders, pleadings or other legal paperwork you have received.  Print any text or message you received from the opposing party if you think they are very important.  If children are involved, please bring a photo of them.

Please gather your thoughts and write down your top concerns and priorities so we can address them at the meeting.  Also, on a separate piece of paper, write a timeline of events that have led to this lawsuit.  Start with a date (or best guess) and continue through to the day of our meeting.

Appointments:
Please be on time for your appointments.  If you know you are going to be late, check in with your lawyer's assistant as soon as you can.

Companions:
If you need a companion to escort you to your lawyer meetings, please note that they are welcome to wait for you in our reception lounge, but the lawyer will likely advise this person does not sit in the confidential meeting.  Exceptions will be made at the discretion of your lawyer.

What will be accomplish at the consultation?
Each case is different and the conversation may go in different direction, but in most cases it it the object of the meeting is for the attorney to get a brief overview of the facts of your case and a general understanding of your legal goals.  He will then give you an analysis of your case which will include the merits of your case and legal options and strategies tailored to your particular situation.

Consultation Fee:
Certain individuals may be offered a waiver of our consultation fee, but in general, the first 30 minutes of your consultation is charge at a flat rate of $50.*  You will be asked to make this payment prior to your appointment.

If you wish to have a longer consultation than 30 minutes, it will be based on the lawyer's availability, and you will be charged at the lawyer's normal hourly rate.

How much does it cost to hire a lawyer or legal coach?

It is our goal to help you resolve your family law situation without financial hardship and to move forward in a positive direction.  Even if you feel you do not have the financial resources to hire a lawyer, we can help you explore financial options.
